Dr.
Edward Steitz is an honorary inductee to the Beacon High school Hall
of Fame. He was the "Father of the Three Point Shot" in
college basketball.
As
a member of the NCAA Basketball Rules Committee he was instrumental
in bringing the three point field goal, the 45 second clock and many
other rules changes to college basketball. Dr. Steitz authored or
edited 91 books and wrote more than 300 articles for magazines and
professional journals.
After
graduating Cornell University, Dr. Steitz went on to receive his master's
and doctoral degrees from Springfield College. Dr. Steitz later became
the head basketball coach and athletic director at Springfield College,
"The Birthplace of Basketball".
Dr.
Steitz was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984. The
renowned basketball authority died in 1990.
